8 years ago, I remember this…

My daughter, who was almost 2 years old at the time, would grab my hands and spin around “ring around the rosie” style to the following…

“Frosty the snowman was a jolly happy soul with a corncob pipe and a button nose and 2 eyes made out of coal…”

I was also 35 weeks pregnant with twins. Imagine a toddler and expecting twins all around Christmas time. It was a memorable December. Someone pass me a tissue because I’m getting teary eyed just thinking about it.

In addition to needing tissues for my tears, my entire family has also needed a lot of tissues recently. Cough and cold season made an appearance in our household. We were in need of several boxes of Kleenex tissues. Kleenex facial tissue is our preferred brand.

So, I went to Target to purchase several boxes of Kleenex facial tissue using this $1 off 4 or 6 pack Kleenex facial tissue coupon (coupon available while supplies last).

During the past several weeks, my kids, husband and I have had a cold. One person gets it and then another catches it. You know how it goes.

A cough and cold is tough on the kids. Runny noses are the worst. My kids use a lot of tissues during this time. They like knowing there is a box of Kleenex facial tissues next to them. That’s why we always have a tissue box nearby when they are sick – you’ll find one next to their beds, in the bathroom, in the family room, and even next to them on the kitchen table.

We’ve used so much Kleenex tissues, we had a supply of empty tissue boxes. I asked my kids for ideas for a tissue box craft project. They came up with a brilliant idea – turn an empty tissue box into a bank.

Since I’ve been feeling nostalgic about Frosty, the kids and I decided to create a Frosty the Snowman Tissue Box Cover. Your kids can use this as a bank or storage if the box is empty OR use as a tissue box cover.

The materials we used to make this Frosty the Snowman Tissue Box Cover were blue felt, white felt, black felt, red felt, stiffened glittery black felt, pink felt, my Frost the Snowman face template, pencil, silver Sharpie marker, scissors, ruler, hot glue gun and hot glue gun sticks.

I cut out two rectangle pieces of blue felt measuring 5 1/8 inches by 9 1/2 inches.

I glued one rectangle blue felt piece with the other with an overlap of about 1/2 inch. I wrapped the blue felt around the tissue box snug. I attached one end to the other using glue.

NOTE: This tissue box cover was not glued onto the tissue box. It’s meant to slide on and off a box so that it’s reusable.

I printed and cut out my Frosty the Snowman template. I used the template as a guide. Download our Frosty the Snowman template HERE.

I traced my template pieces on felt using either a pencil or a silver Sharpie marker. The pencil lines are tough to see on the dark felt colors so I used a silver Sharpie marker.

  • I used white felt for the head and outer eyes.
  • I used black felt for the pupils and mouth.
  • I used red felt for the nose.
  • I used pink felt for the flower and blue felt for the middle of the flower.
  • I used glittery black stiffened felt for the hat.

I cut out all my felt pieces.

My kids helped me glue the Frosty pieces together and then glued him onto the blue felt tissue box cover.

Watch the short video below to see Frosty put together. If you can not play the video in this blog post, then watch it HERE.

For added fun, the kids also attached snowflake stickers on the other sides of the tissue box cover.

Our Frosty the Snowman Tissue Box Cover is adorable. Frosty the Snowman is such a happy and lovable character. He’ll be great to have around to bring cheer when you’re sick and in need of a tissue.
